Harvard University awarded Gates an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at its 2007 commencement, more than three decades after he left without graduating. Gates used his commencement address to challenge the class of 2007 to direct their talents toward solving global inequity, opening with a joke: 'I'm a bad example as a role model for getting a Harvard degree.' He was joined by Bono, who received an honorary degree alongside him at the same ceremony.
